Staying fashionably warm is all about the outerwear!
Having been born and raised in Montreal, I know all about freezing temperatures. I remember making fashion sacrifices in my teens, which often involved sporting my school uniform (think: pleated skirt and knee high socks) in the dead of winter while hardly wearing any winter accessories. That’s right: I didn’t layer nor would I sport any sort of protective gear. Keeping warm was just not “cool” enough in my books (no pun intended).
Fast forward 15 years later, and I’m all about staying as warm and comfortable as possible. Going out in colder seasons doesn’t mean having to forgo style. Here are simple ways to stay fashionably warm in the wintertime:
How to Stay Fashionably Warm This Winter Season
Accessorize!
I’m talking gloves, hats, scarves, earmuffs… the works! The right accessories can help elevate any outfit. During the winter, I often ditch daintier pieces of jewelry (in fear that my winter gear may pull at them), so scarves and beanies make for a very easy replacement.
Wool Socks
…and I’m not talking about those rough, itchy, high-gear socks that construction workers wear. Nowadays, you can find wool socks in all sorts of colours and patterns. I make sure to sport a pair every time I head outdoors.

Layer Your Clothes
It’s all in how you layer! In the winter season, I prefer layering thinner pieces to keep warm – think cardigans and long sleeve cotton shirts. This makes it an easy transition from outdoors to indoors. Once I make it to my destination, and the spot is warmer than expected, I’m not feeling overheated in a bulky sweater. I just remove layers accordingly.
The Perfect Winter Coat is Key
When it comes to winter style, it all comes down to your outerwear – especially your winter coat.
Every winter season, I turn to my winter jackets from Toboggan Canada, a brand best known for its quality in winter apparel (since 1977!).
This year, my go-to outerwear is Toboggan’s Sienna Parka. In fact, it’s one of this season’s best-sellers.
I love that that the Sienna is cut with a slim fit, giving it a more feminine flair. Its fabric is wind and water resistant, making it ideal for Montreal’s harsh winters.

Its faux fur trim ensures extra warmth while staying fashionably ethical. The parka also boasts polar-fleeced pockets, with snaps and magnetic closures.
What caught my eye the most with the Sienna is its beautiful tan shade. I love that it pairs well with tons of other colours – so adding accessories to it is a breeze!
Have you ever heard of Toboggan Canada and their line of impressive outerwear?
